The Bloggers Pamper Hamper!

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well, I've been a little run down recently. Today's post is about the Bloggers Pamper Hamper that the lovely Amanda Bootes put together. The box contained a mixture of items, all of which great for a night in.

Her project has hit a few road bumps but I really think she has put a lot of hard work into sorting this out. My hamper was actually damaged in transit but as soon as I messaged Amanda she arranged a new hamper for me and it arrived a few days later. I felt like the situation was dealt with very well and the customer service was top notch.

Once I received the undamaged products I was impressed, I like that it was cute and girly as a lot of boxes are a little more standard and maybe a little plain.  This came out around Valentines day so it has a 'romantic' heart theme, the bow would have looked adorable as part of a hairstyle for a Valentines date.

The floral bow is from Prairie Charms which I'm familiar with as I've ordered from them before. I love their bows and hair clips as they're just so damn cute, I went though a phase where I just wore bows in my hair everyday so it was a handy little online shop!

The hamper also included a trio of hair oils which I haven't used yet but I can't wait to try, I reckon I'll be having a pamper evening fairly soon!

So these little postcards would brighten someone's day, they could also be used for mothers day which would be ideal. It means that there's one less thing to think about when that time comes along.

The minimalistic and quite basic design is really to my taste, I'm not one for complex or rather extravagant designs. I wish I could remember which company these are from, I'm fairly fond of them. I might just end up framing these two to sit by my record player. Two small shiny black frames... One larger black frame with a divider... I should probably move on before I get carried away as I often do...

Sand and Seagulls is a brand that I didn't know about, it's always nice to discover new brands and this one is certainly a pleasing one! The earings are a little larger than what I usually go for but they do make a statement and they're in one of my favourite colours so I'm a very happy bunny!

The blue of the earrings is a plastic, I think, either way I like the raised gem sort of texture. They're super cute, I can think of several outfits I could wear with these earrings, they can be used formally OR casually.

Moving onto something a little closer to my heart... Chocolate. In the box I received a white chocolate bar with a trio of heart chocolates. The one on the left was spiced rose, or at least I think that's what it was... They're long gone. Oh well! The spiced rose one tasted really bizzare but there was a salted caramel one which I adored.

The final items in the hamper are the two Strawberry Woo Woo's from Funkin', which caused the damage in the hamper the first time around. One burst and destroyed everything but thankfully the second time I received the hamper everything was fine. They are yummy so I was happy to have gotten two, I'll probably buy more if I'm being honest...

Well, that was the Bloggers Pamper Hamper. Let me know what you think and maybe recommend some similar brands? Anyway, thanks for reading!

Don't Open, Dead Inside (The Walking Dead Nails)

The Walking Dead Nails
Hello everyone! As you can guess, today's post is about the themed nails I did for Leanne for Walker Stalker Con. I took inspiration from Copycat Claws who did a fantastic design in 2013, check it out here

I quite enjoyed creating this look because I got to try out some techniques that I don't get to use often. Each of the nails had bases, four on each hand had nude shades and two had a grey one. On top of each base was layered splodges of similar shades to create a less perfect finish. The theme is zombies not angels! For this I used makeup sponges, they don't have to be expensive but I wouldn't advise using dish sponges.

The Walking Dead Nails
For the nails that didn't have writing on, bar the thumbnails, I used the YSL red nail polish that I've used for a few other looks. It was the best shade I could find to create blood drippings, I also aded the odd drip of a more brownish red to make the fake blood look less fresh.

It wasn't too stressful creating this look because it was okay to be messy, you don't have to be precise for anything but the writing which I used a nail art pen for. I had to redo 'The Walking Dead' quite a few times. Top tip: Don't make your friend laugh by putting on a comedy show whilst doing these, it's super frustrating!

For the thumb nails I did two different designs, Ricks hat for the right and Daryl's angel wings for the left. I used white as part of these designs because the thumbnails were a little lighter and I preferred the wings in white. I think that I could get away with using white because I kept it consistent by using white on the hat too.

The final step was to add a matte top coat, as I said, with this design you really don't want to make the nails look too neat. These have driven me insane because I felt like they were too messy but I guess it all worked out for the best.

Well then, what do you guys think? I'd love to hear your opinion but I'd also love to know if any of you guys have tried out any TV show themed nails recently? Thanks for reading this post, it's much appreciated. I hope these have inspired some of you to get creative.

Things That Are Making Me Happy

Today's post is a super positive one, I thought I'd just mention some of the things that are making me smile. I just felt like blogging so here I am, I find that when I get the urge to blog I should just go with it and see how it turns out.

I'm not a particularly careless person but I've finally had a chance to sort out my room and rediscovered the Awesome Mix Vol 1 that I got for Christmas. My lovely younger brother bought it for me but since I've been fairly busy I haven't had a chance to just chill and listen to music. My record player has been majorly neglected for the past month or two so hopefully I'll be able to put it to use more often.

I've also been really enjoying my 'mystery smoothies', I call them that because I just mush up anything I find. Of course, that just include basic ingredients like fruits and vegetables but sometimes they do create the most bizarre tastes.

To be honest, it's quite interesting to determine which ingredients give the smoothies which qualities, rhubarb is quite bitter but because I use the frozen stuff it's quite refreshing. I also find that there's quite a difference between breakfast smoothies, workout smoothies and lunchtime smoothies. For breakfast I love to make quite thick, yoghurty style ones because they can be so sweet and indulgent in a healthy way. You can check out two related posts here:

Another thing that's really making me happy at the moment is blogging, I know this is an obvious one for me but I've been quite pleased with all of my recent content. I have a post coming up about some nails that I recently did for my friend with a zombie theme so that was a fun one, I can't wait for you all to see them.

As it's been half term I've been able to spend more time with my sister; we've fought, we've made a mess, we've laughed, we've sang and we've drawn but overall we've had a fantastic time. I love that I get to see her so much and I wouldn't trade this time for anything. She's growing to be such a strange character, I can only blame myself for the influence.

Well, this has just been a little ray of sunshine. As cheesy as it sounds, I'd love to hear about what's been making you guys smile. Let me know in the comments! Stay tuned folks, I have loads of posts coming up over the next few weeks. Bye!

Grab A Cuppa, It's Time For A Catch Up!

Hello everyone! So today's post is just a bit of a catch up to let you guys know what I've been up to. As I may have mentioned in previous posts, I'm currently unemployed. Yeah, it sucks but it just means that I can start to do something more interesting.

I'm waiting for word back on a few different places, a few different paths but all in all, I guess I'm just looking for something new. I'm at that point where I'm evaluating the past two decades of my life and thinking about where I want to go. I'll probably let you all know when I figure out but until then I'm just playing it by ear and waiting.

I have a few opportunities lined up but I'm also considering freelance work. There's a project that may be coming to light involving that so I'm seriously considering it as a main focus. The services I would provide include social media management, content creation, copywriting and proofreading.

In other Aymie related news, I'm still keeping up with the gym. I'm all settled with my routine but I'm thinking of switching things up, I've increased the effort and time that I'm putting into each exercise and it's building up. I'm at a minute and a half for planking but it's a bit of an uphill battle, I have no strength whatsoever.

Let me know if you want to see more fitness and wellbeing posts because I'm not sure whether or not it's suitable for my blog but I've been adding the odd post. It would be interesting to see what you guys think about the matter.

The next topic I want to discuss is the Wreck This Journal Everywhere, my friend Leanne bought me one for my birthday last year and I have been at a bit of a loss because I just haven't had any inspiration for it.

Leanne showed me her Wreck This Journal and I was pretty damn jealous because hers is awesome so I got to work. What I've git so far is a slightly creepy and faceless walking chic, I'm going to work on it over the next few weeks and see how it goes. It's nice to get back into doodling and being creative in that sort of way because I haven't really had a chance since school.

I've had a lot of time to reflect actually, that comes with the whole 'no job' thing but I just need to look positively. I'm going to kickstart a new career but in the meantime I'm spending time on my hobbies, working on my fitness level and being the embarrassing sister that I love being. Seriously, nothing is more fun than being embarrassing at the school gates... 'Give me a kiss before you go, Jess!'

Is any of this relatable to you at the moment? I feel like this one has gotten a bit deep at times and that wasn't the intention, oh well, I guess I've rolled with it now. Until next time, bye!

Radioactive Unicorn #NOTD

Unicorn Nails
Hello everyone! Nail art pens at the ready, today's post is a #NOTD post. Leanne, AKA the most patient person ever let me try out the Radioactive Unicorn polish that I recently bought on her nails.

Now, of course with a brand name like Radioactive unicorn I couldn't just paint them and be done with them so I decided to do a funky little design on them. The two different polishes that I chose were different in consistency so I definitely have a favourite and a... not so favourite? Well, anyway, LET ME ROT! is the name of the lighter shade most prominently featured and the darker shade is called She's An ICE COLD BITCH! so they have some interesting names.

LET ME ROT! is the better of the two in my opinion, and Leanne's, because the glitter is thinner and it dries quite smoothly. She's An ICE COLD BITCH! has thicker glitter and it just looked clumpy. I added a top coat to sort of smooth it over but it only partially succeeded so paining over that with the pens was fairly challenging.

I painted unicorns onto it to stick with the theme, also kind of because I'd never attempted to paint unicorns onto nails before. It was a bit of a task when it came to painting over the more clumpy of the two polishes but as you can see, I managed.

The eyes look more like crosses but they were supposed to be like black dots with lashes, it's trial and error I guess because the pens are quite fiddly. I think that overall it turned out quite well, okay for a first attempt and a trial with a new base. If I was to attempt this again I would probably find more delicate nail art tools.

Anyway, I decided to add another feature nail so that the overall look didn't seem plain or unfinished. The rainbow design just really fit with the theme and gave me an excuse to use some other colours to brighten it up.

So what do you think? Did I jazz up these mythical nails or was it a magical fail? Okay, that sounded daft even to me but I would really like to know your opinion. I'm pleased that I've managed to get another nail post up because it's been pretty full on with health, happiness and wellbeing. Thanks for reading, until next time... Bye!

Unboxing: Glossybox Valentines Day Edit (Love Is In The Air) #BeautySoulmate

Hi everyone! So it's that time of the year again and pretty much everything is either pink or red, yeah, Valentines Day is once again upon us. Glossybox has, of course, brought out a special edition box filled with some gorgeous goodies.

I utterly adore the design on the packaging, I would say it's almost Parisian in it's chic simplicity. The watercolour heart balloons, are in two shades of pink but they're not obnoxious or too bold. I can't quite decide whether or not I prefer this special edition box or the Rose Gold Edit design. I love rose gold so it's a tough decision!

I'm not going to type this one up in bullet points like I usually do because I have more photos to share but I'll still fill you all in on the details!

The Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor was a product that I already knew about, I actually buy this one because it has moisturising properties so it leaves the skin smooth and soft. Another thing I quite like about this razor is the price, it's only £9.99 so it's a very reasonable price.

The Vintage Company Floral Slanted Tweezers are cute, handy to keep in a makeup bag and precise because of the slanted edge. I'm looking forward to shaping my brows again so these are perfect. They only cost £8 so they're worth the price, a good pair of tweezers can last for months without being blunted.

The design on the tweezers is reminiscent of some of Cath Kidston's floral patterns. I love the vintage look and a lot of tweezers are quite plain so these will make a nice addition to my bag!

The Naobay Hair Mask is £10.64 and since this one is luxury size it's well worth it. I love a good hair mask, I've been attempting to grow out this pixie cut for so long and little hair treats like this one really improve the quality of my hair.

I feel like out of all the products in the box that this one is my #beautysoulmate. It's the product that I appreciate the most because even before my hair was ruined with dye I had quite thick and coarse hair. It can be unmanageable despite the short length and with all of the extra TLC it's starting to grow in quite healthily.

Moving onto the makeup part of this month's Glossybox, the MUA PowerPout Glaze Low Voltage Gloss comes in at £3.50 which is the standard sort of price for the MUA brand. I like that it's subtle and and not as bold and thick as the packaging would suggest.

The Nicka K New York 24H Waterproof Eyeliner costs only £3.99 at retail price and whilst I don't wear eyeliner a whole lot, I can appreciate the smokey effect that can easily be created with a but of smudging. I like that this one isn't too dark so I could wear it for multiple occasions and not feel like I've overdone it.

So there you have it, that's the contents of this month's Glossybox. Let me know in the comments if you like any of the featured products in the comments, I'd love to know a bit about what everyone else thinks.

My next post should be about the two Radioactive Unicorn nail polishes I ordered last week when they launched their Pastel Goth range. I bought two gorgeous blue shades, y'know, just incase you were curious. Thanks for reading, I hope you've found this post useful in your search for a beauty subscription box!

Tarte Green Smoothie Recipe: A Little Something For People Who Are Sweet Enough Already!

Hello everyone! So today's post is going to be a bit like my Healthy Breakfast Smoothie Recipe, I recently reread the post and thought about how sweet it was and the fact that everyone has their own preference.

That's why I've put together a recipe for a tarte and fresh tasting smoothie, I just want to put a few ideas out there for you guys to try. Let me know which you prefer in the comments below and I can create a few more in the same sort of way. I'd love to know what you all think, it's really quite interesting to see how differently people can think about taste.

What you need:
  • A blender!
  • A handful of kale
  • A handful of frozen rhubarb
  • 1 Carrot
  • 1 Pear
  • 750ml of fresh orange juice
  • Flaked almonds (optional)

I actually made this for two small servings so divide and multiply for whichever serving size you would prefer. It also depends on how thick you like your smoothie to be, this one was smooth and frothy but it was also quite thick.

To start off with I chopped up the pear into small chunks to match the size of the frozen rhubarb pieces and then added the two ingredients at the same time. I chose to use frozen rhubarb so the drink would be chilled because I don't like to add ice into mine.

Next the carrot was just sliced and added into the mixture, I find carrots to be quite sweet for vegetables so it's a nice addition to various smoothies. I then added kale because I like to try and build up to my 5 a day, all in all the carrot and the kale wasn't too overpowering but it made the mixture less bitter and made it taste quite fresh and organic.

Instead of using Greek yoghurt like I did with the other smoothie I chose orange juice because to me I think that Greek yoghurt is more for breakfast and juice is more for brunch/lunchtime. So anyway, just pour 750ml of the fresh orange juice over the fruit and vegetables.

The final step is to blend it all together on the pulse setting of the blender, If you prefer a chunky mix just blend it until it all looks suitable mixed in but if you prefer a smoother mix you can just leave the blender on for a minute or two. The kale and the pear gives the smoothie it's healthy green shade.

For presentation I added flaked almonds but you don't have to, it's purely optional but I'm not going to lie... I snacked on a few before I got around to drinking my smoothie. I love almonds so it was more of an impulse to add them.

Well, thanks for reading today's post. I'd love to know what you think about it so just tell me which recipe you prefer in the comments below. I also welcome any requests!

My Not So Secret Blogging Identity: Should Bloggers Disclose Their Names?

Hello everyone! So today's post is about blogging because I've given you guys a bit of a lifestyle overload. A bit more specifically, today I'm bringing up the question about whether or not bloggers should tell everyone that they run a blog or if they should hide behind a secret identity.

I've spoken to quite a few bloggers that don't tell their friends and family that they run a blog but I've also spoken to quite a few that see no problem with sharing their lives, faces and names. I'm not particularly bothered about what people think of me for blogging anymore, I still get a bit blushy but in general I don't care. I've posted pictures of me wearing face masks, no makeup selfies... Whatever fits the post! I think that things are just easier if I'm able to share pictures to convey what I'm saying.

If you're just thinking about blogging and you haven't started to blog yet you may want to have a think about this and decide whether you want to create a secret identity or whether you just want your name out there. I didn't really put too much thought into it because I had blog inspiration from quite a few know bloggers and I just went with my own name. It's fine if you want to have a sort of blogging alter ego, it's just personal preference!

One thing a lot of people get worried about is the opinions of friends and family, I get that because I always get bashful and embarrassed when my dad mentions my most recent blog posts. I got over it a bit when I was in Hong Kong with my gran last year because she took over as photographer and I got to be in front of the camera instead.

Being unsure and a little embarrassed is fine but I just think that I might as well get credit for the things I type up and it also kind of helps with confidence too. I never liked teachers reading what I wrote in school and I sort of got a complex about it, I think that's one of the reasons that my diploma in journalism and PR and my diploma in social media marketing are such out of character things for me to have.

A lot of my friends knew in the first place anyway because I started my first blog in college and at the beginning I harassed a few of my other friends to share my blog and my most recent posts. I was pretty happy about it anyway because I have a few friends that have also taken up blogging and I've met some awesome people through doing it!

The next thing would be something that everyone's grandparents bring up, are we sharing too much information online? The answer isn't an easy one. I guess only you can control how much you share, I pretty much just don't care about that and maybe that's the wrong way to go about it. What I'm trying to say is that you're only as secure as you want to be and it's not as if I have my address up in bold letters on my blog.

So what do you guys think? Do you agree with me or do you prefer to keep things separate and use a secret identity? Leave your answer in the comments!
